GREEN MAN GOLFING SOCIETY
Next day out:- South Staffs Golf Club Wednesday 15th September 2010 1st Tee 12.00
The Shropshire Golf Club Thursday 26th August
Despite the weather, which to be fair wasn’t that bad, rather wet under foot, a few lakes on the greens and the odd alligator looking for a quick meal. The course was excellent, some really tough holes and some straight forward par 4’s. Everyone enjoyed the layout (we played the silver and gold for those of you who know the course) and suggested that we play there again next year. Hopefully the weather will be clearer and we’ll enjoy some wonderful views over the Shropshire countryside.
A new member has joined us, Mick Lafford, playing off 13, or rather he was. He quickly realized what a tough school the Green Man Golf Society is. First game, came second, and deducted a shot!!
1st was Rob Crossley with 36pts, won a tenner, deducted three shots (rule 16, sub section 2b was invoked; “Any member of the aforesaid society, ie The Green Man Golf Society, winner three competitions shall be hung, drawn and quartered deducted a further shot than the usual two.”) Rob now plays off 19; 2nd Mick Lafford, 35pts, wins a fiver, and nearly managed to get it in his pocket. Rob quickly pointed out that the winners usually use there winnings to get a round in, or was it Bob??. Mick next plays off 12; 3rd Brian Yates, 31pts (on count back); 4th Bob Harvey 31pts; 5th Clyde Heath 30pts; 6th Richard Hocknell 29pts; 7th Peter Anthony 25pts, receives one shot, so now playing off 23 and 8th Chris Bulman 23pts (had a horrid time, seemed to spend most of his time in amongst the bushes and trees) receives two shots, so now off 22.
Returning to the Green Man we had a splendid steak pie and chips, but Brian managed to persuade Ruth we wanted baked beans as well. Great meal Ruth, thanks.
I’ve managed to secure a starting time of 12 noon for South Staffs on Wednesday 15th September. For those of you who have never played there, get your name up it is a quality course. We’ve got to start early as they have a Seniors’ match against Little Aston at 1.00pm. and we need to get away before them. The list is up at the pub so if you are able to play please put your name up asap, as I have to confirm numbers with them by the 8th September.
It’s strange how events can catch up with you. Peter and John were playing together on the local course. Peter sliced his ball over a large embankment and proceeded to retrieve his ball. After a few moments he came running back. “Do me a favour,” he said “go and get my ball. I just seen my wife and she’s playing golf with my mistress. I can’t meet them together.”
John agreed and went to retrieve the ball. After a few moments, he came running back and said, “Small world isn’t it”.
